Many, many years ago I visited a house where a writing ‘workshop’ was being conducted. I walked into an apartment where I was given a bunch of papers stapled together. For the next two hours, I was immersed in my imagination. I do not remember what I wrote but I do remember the happiness I felt.
I have always wanted to recreate that moment for children. Last month I conducted the Junior Writer Program for children from 6-9 years. I was extremely excited to work with young minds and this time I had many students from one particular school – the Tashi Namgyal Academy in the beautiful city of Gangtok, Sikkim. The children were extremely attentive and enthusiastic and I am so happy that I could light a spark of creativity in them- a single spark can go a very long way 🙂
The children created some amazing characters – alien spies, demon slayers, mermaids, explorers….and so many more. Together, we brought the characters to life and introduced them to conflicts, which is the bedrock of stories.
Here are the video links of the children reading their final stories aloud. I am so very proud of you TNA-ers! Please watch the videos and encourage these junior writers!
